Physical and chemical properties |
Colorless and irritating fuming liquid, relative density 1.675, melting point 1.2°C, boiling point 105.1°C, reddish yellow when dissolved with chlorine or phosphorus pentachloride. When exposed to moist air, it smokes violently and hydrolyzes to produce phosphoric acid and hydrogen chloride. When it meets water and alcohol, it decomposes and releases a large amount of heat and hydrogen chloride gas, which is irritating to the eyes and corrosive. |
Use |
The product is widely used in the production of pesticides, medicines, dyes, phosphate esters and flame retardants. It is a raw material for the manufacture of organophosphorus pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, etc., used in the production of plastic plasticizers and long-acting sulfonamides. The chlorination reaction of medicines is an intermediate for the production of dyes, chlorinating agents and catalysts for organic synthesis, and uranium extracting agents. |
